4. Freefall 3. Sentiments 2. Moroccan Roll 1. Elegant Gypsy I did re-listen to them before posting but the order came out exactly as expected. I don't understand the love for Freefall but then I have never been a big fan of the Dregs.

4. Sentiments-only because I just discovered this in the last decade or so. Great album, great band. 3. Freefall-a lot of the Dregs music sounds composed to me, not very improvised. Also there's a Southern Rawk influence that sometimes turns me off, if I am being honest. But Cruise Control. And Refried Funky Chicken! Some great tunes, even the Southern-tinged stuff and the classically influenced stuff... 2. Moroccan Roll-Love everything about this, even the singing. A personal fave of mine. 1. Elegant Gypsy-for sentimental reasons, frankly...I'm a bit jaded on Al and his Spanish scales and pick-every-note while palm-muting technique, but man when I first hear it this was the coolest shit every, and this is his best fusion solo album IMO. Anthony slays on this--the sound of flanged bass takes me back to my mid-teens when I first heard this, and also the melodies on this one stay with you. Again, I don't hear much "improv" with Al. Also, call me a weirdo, but I really love Soaring Through a Dream.
I think the formative fusion albums for most of our generation include #1-3 for sure, and there is no shame in continuing to love and be moved by the stuff we grew up with.

How would you guys rank them?
Our guest pulled out, the day OF the taping, so we had to scramble. I thought of some here as a fill-in, and messaged conebeckham in fact, but xmiles and shadow were thoughts as well. In a time crunch situ, it's best to find someone that already knows the records in question

They’re all such good albums it’s apples to oranges. But Personae is one of my few five star albums so would get the 1st spot.

Apples to oranges, to mean, you can't compare things? It's easy. I like apples. I don't like oranges that much. Apples rank higher then. See how easy?

Well, Ohm is one of my favorites, but I consider it to be more prog than fusion by my definition. And McLaughlin Trio although a fantastic album, but is all acoustic guitar, which knocks it down a few points in terms of rock energy. So this puts GHS in 2nd place by default. And then Ohm in last place as I don't consider it fusion.

I finally had a chance to listen to the whole show. Really great work George - I enjoyed your insights. I was surprised at the end when Mark incorrectly referred to David Hines as a guitarist you did not catch that. Another fun fact I though of when you were talking about Chris Poland's note bending: Chris has a hand injury which prevents him from bending his pointer finger on the fret hand, something that has not limited him, and maybe influenced his sound.

I did catch it, but I wasn't sure if he was trying to divert them, or he was slyly referring to AH being on two tracks. I also didn't want to show him up, were that not the case.
I was surprised 3 guitar players didn't seem to agree with me about Poland's vibrato. I did see in an interview where he said that he feels the injury and it's consequences might give him a different sound.
Thanks for the view and the positive feedback. I feel like we have found our groove. I have a Tone Center show planned for November. October is still up in the air

I was super into those albums when they came out and was bummed when they stopped doing them.
