Terry Riley is a genre all of his own. Born in 1935 he is an American composer and performing musician associated with the minimalist school of 20th century music, of which he was a pioneer. Influenced by both jazz and Indian classical music, his music became notable for its innovative use of repetition, tape music techniques, and delay systems. This track gives a gentle introduction to his sound. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7R6iEQUeMA&list=PLQ3HOVb5ZQanCnS3nnj5Rduhi_X_NJVJ4&index=10His best known track is "Rainbow in Curved Air". www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy3W-3HPMWgI live in the countryside and sometimes walk out at night looking at the moon and stars and listening to his music. It gives a great sense of being out there in the universe. I have to be careful not to get too carried and forget to pay an attention to passing cars. At least I would die happy.

Just saw this. I'm a Riley fan. He is definitely in this own universe or at least one of relatively limited company (though a lot of modern classical tends to favor this soft of thing). In C is my favorite record of his and certainly one of those records that if you have any interest in music, you should check out (or own). Between Riley and Steve Reich, when I want to go down this road, it's an experience indeed. Nice post.

Be sure to get the "In C" reissue which has a red stripe reading "Carnegie Hall Presents" on the cover. The remix/remaster is like night and day.

I see Bob Ludwig did the mastering but I don't see a remix.

I think that getting a new copy of IN C is more important than proving that I may have been wrong in assuming it was remixed, because there is no written indication that it was remixed, only that it was remastered by Bob Ludwig (in the new booklet). The reason I assumed and said "Remastered/remixed" is because I have never heard a "remaster" make such a drastic difference. It's like night and day. "I see Bob Ludwig did the mastering but I don't see a remix"? How did you know Bob Ludwig remastered it, assuming you didn't have the new reissue booklet at the time of your response? Was this info on-line? If you do have the reissue and its new booklet, (and that's how you knew), then it's unfortunate that your reply focused on my possibly erroneous assertion of a remix, rather than the music itself. But I guess that's the difference between a right-fighter and a music lover.
