Under the ‘What are you listening to?’ thread there was a discussion as to whether genres other than fusion could be included.
I am going to suggest here that there is Jazz that is recognisably post fusion and there should be a thread for it.
It is difficult enough to define Jazz fusion let alone post fusion, but here goes.
Some music post-seventies has clear affinities to seventies fusion and some is indistinguishable from it. This music is fusion. Other music clearly owes a debt to fusion but has shown some further development. This is post fusion.
(By analogy we could refer to Seventies Disco Music as post-Motown or post-Funk.)
Hopefully it will become clearer when I post my first example.
(Then there is the question of pre-fusion; now that is really hard to define!)

My first example of post fusion is ‘The Dropper’ by Medeski, Martin and Wood (MMW). Here is the track 'Partido Alto' from that album. In fact, MMW have previously been indirectly recognised on this forum since JaySee proposed the John Scofield album ‘A Go Go’ for ‘Best of 1998’ and MMW were his collaborators on this. I am not familiar with all of MMW’s output but when I saw them at Ronnie Scott’s they played ‘Hey Joe’ as part of their an encore and the audience were transfixed. They also did a brilliant version of 'Suspicious Minds". Here is a live performance of "Hey Joe". "Suspicious Minds" is here after an introductory interview. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdNJkPh7sa8Ironically, I have also seen Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood and was disappointed because Scofield was in overdrive and rode rough shod over the others.

I saw Kamsasi Washington in Rayleigh NC last year. It was a great experience. I would suppose he should be classified as post fusion rather than fusion, although there is a marked seventies influence in his music. Here he is with 'The Magnificent Seven'. His performance at Glastonbury is worth checking out. Lots of fusion rhythms. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIZC2vFpTns&t=106s
