Does anyone listen to online or terrestrial stations that play fusion? As I lamented in the "listening to" thread, Chicago's WXRT's new owners pulled the plug on the Sunday-night institution, Jazz Transfusion A few years back, I found two stations that I think are pretty good. One is JazzWax (playing Wayne right now!): www.rcast.net/dir/42821/radiowax-jazz-fusionI also like Fusion101, which can be found here: www.radionomy.com/en/radio/fusion101/Always excited to learn about new sources of music.

I used to listen to Fusion101 quite a lot before I started to use Spotify. Inside Jazz Fusion is one station that I found some time ago. It played lots of lesser-known artists and bands. It looks to be off-line right now. I hope it's not gone for good. insidejazzfusion.radio.net/

I used to listen to Fusion Groovin' and Latch Radio on Live365, but not in quite a while. Honestly, I can't keep up with all the artist leads/recommends I already get from other sources, so I don't need more from radio. Plus, I'm too far removed from my radio days now, to deal with things like commercials, or horrible songs thrown in, that you don't get when you're playing your own stuff.
As far as Jazz Transfusion, Winograd still has a daily show on WDCB. Is that not fusion? They used to have a fusion show on there in the early 90s that turned me on to a lot of stuff.

No fusion on DCB. The reason I am mostly asking as well is because I am at a period of the year when I am actually sitting at my desk for a lot of time. I don't have time to spend on tracking down music but its nice to have music in the background at a moderate volume. Always fun to hear Birds of Fire on volume level 3. Plus, Live365 went offline a few years back so small broadcasters went away with that. Bummer. Hey - if you guys have sources/leads other than here, please share!

Well, the solutions are many, if you're just out to hear some tunes. The most obvious is, you could get Spotify. I won't touch it, because all the musos I know hate it, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else. Or how about Pandora? Plenty of good stuff there, and you could start your own station as well. I had one a couple years ago, but I got bored with it. It's easy though, and free. There's also the youtube route. Not much that isn't up there at this point. You can listen to full albums, or make your own playlists. I have one up there, if you want something to listen to. Search GLJRF Lastly, if you're at your desk, why not just shuffle all your files on your media player as you sit?

One more thing - I forgot to mention that AccuRadio has a pretty decent stream. Listened to it a bit today.

Couple of responses to you, George. Between my wife and me, we have Spotify and Pandora. Fan of the Confusion/Fusion playlist!
On Spotify, it's like a giant buffet, but I don't always find it satisfying in terms of music discovery. Their weekly playlist is pretty good but I tend to go there to check something out that I hear about from various sources or to put something on I don't have readily accessible (it's a drag trying to play my LP of Romantic Warrior at work).
Pandora is boring and as for my music library (iPod, local files or my 200 gig DAP), that is the point - looking for stuff I have not heard before. My trusty iPod classic is still my favorite player, but, I've heard those songs many many times.
I *will* however, check out GLJRF.

You switched streams on me there, Jay. You went from. "its nice to have music in the background" to it being about discovering artists. I find Facebook impossible to beat for discovery. There are a multitude of different groups to join on there, that present people from all over the planet, scouting, and sharing the best of what they've heard. That beats the tar out of, a singular dj playing tunes he likes, if you ask me. I guess you could say there's an extra step in the equation, because you have to read the post, then follow the link(or search for one if the guy didn't provide it) to check it out, but if you hear a track you like on the radio, you do the same thing when you want to explore further, right?
Another thing you could do is use RYM. Look thru the records JaySee has given 5 stars to, then 4 and a half. Then mine. Or you could scan the year-end charts for the site, for any given year and genre, to get a wider perspective. There's mild effort there, which may be the death knell for you, as I think I'm sensing your main goal is to do nothing and still find new artists. That was the radio concept we grew up with, but it doesn't work well today. We already know too many artists, and there are too few sources of people playing good music. Nowadays, if you want new(and good), you gotta dig a little bit.

Nowadays, if you want new(and good), you gotta dig a little bit. Well, obviously I was not clear because I don't consider background listening and discovery mutually exclusive. To me, while there is passive listening, I am always still listening to a degree (thanks to my ADHD) so I find things all of the time from non-concentrated listening. I also don't want to stray too far from the topic of radio stations for this music. That being said, I appreciate the intel on sources. I have a pretty demanding job so my time is unfortunately limited in terms of hunting down music (but I do spend an awful lot of time doing this when I am not working or otherwise actively listening - this board, Organissimo and Hoffman are my main sources - I despise FB). Other than jazz, the only other genre I have really been pretty heavily into over the last ten years or so is metal so you are spot on with the year end lists. Too much music! Thanks again for all of your thoughts.

This is JaySee's list, right? Pretty certain it is. Yes, it's mine, but I have to give credit to the people of FZ (this and original) for many of the entries.

I just tried WEER Jazz Rock Radio (John W. Patterson) and clicked on the "Barfhead" Boy's image but nothing plays as I used to listen to his stream in the past. Has that been inactive for years now?
