Jonas Hellborg, Shawn Lane & Jeff Sipe is easily my favorite gtr/bs/dr trio. All their albums are great, Personae being the best or at least the one I listen to the most.
What's your favorite?

Difficult to narrow it down. I love this basic format but a lot of great guitarists have quartets with the addition of keyboards and occasionally sax or even trumpet. My honest answer would probably be the original Jimi Hendrix Trio but in a more fusion vein I would list the following:
Bill Connors/Tom Kennedy/Kim Plainfield Brett Garsed/Ric Fierabracci/Toss/Panos Frank Gambale/Stuart Hamm/Steve Smith Robben Ford/Jimmy Haslip/Vinnie Colaiuta Dewa Budjana/Jimmy Johnson/Vinnie Colaiuta
as well as Lane/Hellborg/Sipe. Plus there are some others like Fire Merchants where the personnel change between albums.

I knew this was going to be your #1. Another great one-off trio is The Outsidemen (Band Overboard).

Frank Gambale/Stuart Hamm/Steve Smith I was supposed to give these more spins like months ago. I better do it tomorrow.

How on earth did no one mention Holdsworth with Gary Husband and Paul Carmichael or Chad? My favorite AH trio is the one with Dave Carpenter and Gary Novak (The Sixteen Men of Tain).
