In addition to fusion, does anyone else listen to jazz?
I see probably 12 jazz concerts a year. I've seen Jason Moran, Ravi Coltrane, John Scofield, Branford Marsalis, and the wife and I went to a cool series that is a jazz education/performance combo hosted by Terrence Brewer - last year was the jazz of 1959.
I listen to a lot of jazz ranging from be-bop to current. I'm also working mostly on jazz with my guitar studies.

My Music diet is probably 70-75% jazz or jazz related. If you count Fusion as Jazz. But I like a ton of classic Blue Note, Prestige, Impulse stuff...as well as current performers and lesser-known or boutique labels. I keep up with the latest releases of Redman, Moran, Akinmusire, Iyer, Potter, Maria Schneider, Mehldau, David Murray, and a lot of ECM artists. I dip my toe in the Free Jazz pool too, dig Binker Golding, Binker and Moses, AEC, Jaimie Branch ( A huge sad loss, for me), Luke Stewart, Joelle Leandre, Dave Liebman, Marcus Strickland, Dave Douglas, Tom Harrell......the list goes on. I even listen to a bit of (gasp!) Jazz vocals, in moderation when the mood is right.

Straight jazz is not my favorite thing. As with fusion, I tend to favor the more energetic stuff. What I enjoy most are piano as leader albums, by and large.
