I gotta say, I've been listening to the new one, Trip, and thinking it's my favorite from him. It probably used to be Play, but this has supplanted it. I feel like most of his records have their share of filler, this one, less so. What are your favorites?
Also, list a greatest songs playlist/hits cd of his back catalog stuff.
I think I would include these, chronologically, and omitting the new album:
Upside Downside Chromazone Jigsaw Kwirk Ha Ha Hotel Bait Tone Blues Tipatina's Link Way Out East Tumble Home Moroccan Roll

'Play' has been my favorite, too. I also like 'Who Let the Cats Out?'. I need to give the new one a few spins more.
I created your playlist on Spotify. Last two tracks are missing as Spotify doesn't have those albums.
It's a collaborative playlist, so everybody can add their Mike Stern favorites. I added Miles Davis' Fat Time. It has one of the best solos Stern has ever played.

New addition. Shuffle from Jukkis Uotila Band's Live album. Mike doesn't seem to have too many fans here on FZ.

Of his solo albums anyway. I was kind of hoping to hear about some blazing hidden gem tracks/albums I hadn't heard yet. Oh well

Just saw this. Big fan since seeing him with Michael Brecker's first solo band in Philly in what, 1987? I think Joey Calderazzo was about 14 then!

Stern seems to be one of those iconic players, I am listening to his 2009 Big Neighborhood cd, and it definitely has it's moments, he can rock some blues and play some complex runs along with the keyboardist as good and anyone. No question he has played with just about everyone who is someone, and what a prolific recording career he has had. Yet while I like him, he is one of those players that seems to get fewer spins in this casa, he has so much in common with players like Mike Landau, Hiram Bullock, John Scofield, Wayne Krantz, Kevin Eubanks, Billy Frisell, Dean Brown, Steve Khan, Jeff Mironov, maybe even some of Pat Metheny's more rocking material, it's that east coast vibe, I like it, but love is a harder match.

I've been a fan of Mike Stern for over 25 plus years, my first ever jazz concert was a double bill with him and Ian Bellamy, his guitar playing absolutely blew me, it was like listening to Pat Metheny and Jimi Hendrix all in one. I got to meet him after a show in 2018 and he's a super cool guy. My dad has been following him since his early days with Billy Cobham and Blood, Sweat & Tears.
My favourite Mike Stern albums Give And Take Is What It Is Standards And Other Songs Jigsaw Upside Downside Time In Place Who Let The Cats Out? Between The Lines
