I find almost everything Thundercat is on to be full on cringe. His is not a name I see in album credits and get excited, despite the boatload of chops. Graves debut is the only thing I like him on, and that's just a couple songs. Maybe I’m just old, but I have a hard time taking millennials with video game superhero names seriously. It will be interesting to see which way fusion goes in the next 20 years.

Are we going to rank our lists? Or top 10?

Yes. The only reason I hadn't put that board up yet was, I am doing a list for 4Fusion Friday to air this week. So maybe get yours finalized and I'll put the board up then.
Special guest in the 4chair this month, that I think you'll like!

Ruggero Robin Trio - Lo-Fi Project
I'm not digging it, but maybe someone here might.

Graves debut is the only thing I like him on, and that's just a couple songs. I was not that excited by Graves previous work and hadn't gotten around to listening to the Live album until now. It kills! Mostly thanks to the guitar work. Also, to my surprise, Graves is 41 - still technically a millennial (by a hair) but not such a wee lad as I thought.

Wow. He looks younger. And Clarke used to lie about his age from the stage. He was saying Graves was a twenty-something in the mid 2010s

Hi All - I posted in the other section with the legacy lists but I just wanted to send along my thank you for those of you that have taken the time to write up your lists and provide more thoughts on this year. I haven't really listened to a lot of fusion this year due to personal commitments and other musical interests so this is extremely valuable for me. I only have five that I listened to a lot this year, so these are the ones I wanted to at least put here:
Tim Miller - Synergy Simon Phillips - Protocol V Gary Husband / Alf Terje Hana - The Trackers Mike Miller - Trust Allan Holdsworth’s Legacy – The Nineteen Men of Tain
Again, thank you for your work.

It took me a while, but I spent a lot of time with the albums, and discovered a few last minute additions. Getting past the first 4 was splitting hairs for me, so included all of the ones I rank as above average.
Jukka Haavisto - Reflections. Nothing groundbreaking compositionally. But the soloing by all is the most gratifying to me. Simon Phillips - Protocol. Protocol continues to be a great formula made even beter by Alex Sill's guitar work Juan Cortés - Wamerú. The first track is a little shreddy for me, but really comes into it's own as one of the best in the Holdsworth style Fusio Group - XXX. Another great Fusio Group album along the lines of their establashed formula. More traditional approach references to CCEB & Bitches Brew. Good compositions, solid chops. Gábor Csordás / Vince Bartók / Adonisz Fábry - On the Rhodes Again. Nothing groundbreaking, just really fun funky jazzy Rhodes jams Mike Miller - Trust. I am a fan of Miller for his natural "conversational" phrasing, & tone. I think this is one of his better examples. Tim Miller - Synergy. One of the best examples of the modern direction of fusion. Holdsworth influence. Technically good, but a little clinical for me. Evgeny Pobozhiy - Elements For Peace. 30 year old guitar wunderkind. Dense squirly composition & arrangement. Wasafiri - Klearlight. Retro, melodic, frenetic Machecek style playing Marek Napiórkowski - String Theory. Orchestral backing, His soloing feels close to home for me, in how he incorporates bebop vocabulary. Bass Extremes / Victor Wooten / Steve Bailey S'Low Down. Good sounding, atypical album with a dose of homor, good playing Mathias Heise Quadrillion - Quadrillion. Fun album. Goes in a lot of different directions vs. one identity Carlos Fischer - Búsqueda Infinita. Compositions fit the current style, and are not as exciting to me. The soloing is what drives my rating up Carlo Cantini Quartet - Heptagon. Fun listen, a bit derivative Aurora Clara - Clear Dawn - Retro album along the lines of Mahavishnu Ipso Facto - From nowhere to now here. A little light, nice compositions, melodicism Billy Cobham - Drum 'N' Voice, Vol. 5. Aside from a handful of vocal tracks, it is a solid Cobham album
