Sheesh, so many records from this guy It's only 4 songs and just under 20 minutes though. And boring. I have liked most all of his stuff too, particulalrly the baritone records, but this one is a snoozer.

I haven't heard it. Their whole vibe leaves me ice cold.

I haven't heard it. Their whole vibe leaves me ice cold. Ah. I dunno if it's really "fusion" but it is tangential. I have never "seen" them so not sure what their "vibe" is....they remind me, a bit, of Mats Morgan for some reason, musically. Maybe more "compositionally oriented" than fusion-ish....maybe a bit more "prog-R & B."

Listening now. I hear some jazz changes and harmony. Not particularly fond of the sound. Keyboard bass, and the electronic sounding drums give it a real lightwieght feel. The vocal tracks are hideous, to no ones surprise. She can play, but the sum of it all is not appealing to me. I still find there is no feeling behind any of it. Feels very robotic to me, especially the drumming, which is very drum n'bass style. I think it's Nu Jazz
EDIT: That was the worst album I heard all year. Def. not fusion. Snoop Dogg andd Busta Rhymes aren't on fusion albums!

Yeah, that's a fair assessment. Y'know, there's a bunch of releases that are sort of in that bag.....spiritual "jazz"/R & B/Funk sort of vibe. Brandon Coleman, Dezron Douglas and Brandee Younger...sort of related to the Kamesi Washington/Cameron Graves/Thundercat scene...but they don't really strike me as fusion----except for Cameron Graves whose releases are all great at conjuring up a Golden Age.
Cameron's live album is fusion for sure. The rest of this scene's releases are something else. Some folks lump a lot of the London Scene in Fusion, even stuff like The Comet Is Coming, Ezra Collective, Makaya McCraven.....I think that stuff is not fusion in the classic sense. I like it, when I am in the right mood.

The Comet is Coming might be the other worst album I heard this year. lol. I have no idea how anyone links that to fusion.
The live Graves is sensational. He may hang with those guys, but his music is nothing like any of them. I fear he may go that way at some point. I saw where he said Planetary Prince, Seven, and the live are a trilogy in his mind. Now that it's done, I hope he doesn't go off the rails. I'm thinking of trying to get him on the show.

Thundercat is interesting..dude has chops, and can blow fusion, but he also cops that George Duke vibe....I like his albums though, again...when the mood strikes me.

Vocals on fusion albums are bad enough but comedy and music simply don't work for me. So I love some Zappa but can't stand a lot of his work too.

I find almost everything Thundercat is on to be full on cringe. His is not a name I see in album credits and get excited, despite the boatload of chops. Graves debut is the only thing I like him on, and that's just a couple songs.
