So, Pete and I are going to be tackling an 80s fusion essentials type of list at some point here. What are your picks for this decade? Live albums will probably be allowed for this, though I am hard pressed to think of many smokin live platters from this decade. Ok to name up to 2 releases per artist too, though discouraged, unless you can't make separation.
Let's see em.

Off the top of my head:
Players - s/t John Scofield - Blue Matter Chick Corea Elektric Band - s/t Mike Stern - Upside Downside Miles Davis - We Want Miles Wayne Shorter - Joy Ryder Kazumi Watanabe - Spice of Life Tribal Tech - Nomad Pat Metheny - Travels Steve Khan - Casa Loco Bill Connors - Assembler Fire Merchants - s/t
Not a good decade for fusion really. Most artists doing better stuff either before or after the 80's. Honestly probably only the first three on my list are essential although you would be missing out not to have the others.

Mine would be pretty close to that list. But I'd include Metal Fatigue & Individual Choice in place of Miles & Wayne (no need to offer the usual criticisms of Individual choice - beating a dead horse)

Nomad is 1990. One of their 80s discs will def. make the list, as will Players, Elektric Band, and Kazumi. I like Step It most of the Connors stuff.

I have thought of another one. Bill Evans - either Let the Juice Loose (which is live) or Summertime. Both are very good with good tunes and great lineups.
I like all 3 of Connors 80's albums but had to pick one.

Juice is also 1990. I never did have Summertime. Is that fusion? I always thought it was a straight ahead album

Summertime is definitely not a straight ahead album although it does have some standards on it. It is not as full on as Juice largely due to the different rhythm sections (Goldstein/Gottlieb/Johnson) instead of Beard/Jones/Chambers and again is honestly not really essential.

The 80s show will be happening on Sunday morning. Not a ranking per se, but more like an overview, or a guide to the gems of the decade. Should be fun

Can't wait to see the show, I am just starting to dip my toe in the water, so this will be a learning experience for me - look forward to your choices and then I have some serious listening to do.
