Curious about member’s opinions of Japanese fusion bands and artists. I have loved Kazumi Watanabe for decades, and have followed Hiromi since Brain came out....also dig Fragile and Fazjaz a lot. I am hot and cold on Cassiopeia and Prism—and have heard very little T Square and Trix.
What should I hear from those last four? Best albums? Any bands I’m missing?

My favorites are the four you mentioned; Fragile, Hiromi, Fazjaz, and Kazumi. Kazumi was my entry point, with The Spice of Life in 87. Casiopea is a touch too fluffy for me. Prism is hit or miss. 1977 Live at Sugino Kodo is a good one, comprising of the whole first album and a couple from the second, with some covers. Some of the 2000s stuff I like too. Invite, MJU, and Mode: Odd. Have not dug into the 90s stuff yet. T Square, I equate with Casiopea. Trix is a little more robust than those two. I only have the ones with Yuya on guitar. Impact, Power, Deluxe, Re:Trix, Trick...take your pick. They're hit or miss as albums, but good stuff can be found on all of them.
Most glaring omission for me is Tetsuo Sakurai. Gentle Hearts, Vital World, My Dear Musiclife, and It's a Jaco Time are all top shelf. Also, TRI-Offensive. A spectacular one and done. Daisuke Kunita(all 3) Kiyo Sen(Trick or Treat, Organizer, Drumatica, Choco Boo) Taku Yabuki(Modern World Symphony 3, Modern World Symphony 1, Primary Colors) Exhivision(s/t, Overexposure) Space Circus(both) KBB(Proof of Concept, Age of Pain) Mongol Trimurti Gravitational Force Field - Zero Into the Night(s/t) Side Steps(Alive and Alive II) Keep(DG-581, Rock n Rocked Rock) Traffic Information(both)
Those come to mind for me. I'm sure shadow and funkle will have more

I can add a few more that are worth checking: Next Order Takanori Niida WYSIWYG Koichi Yabori Yeah, the first WYSIWYG in particular, is quite strong. Kiyomi Otaka - Third Hand is another one along those lines. The Kozo Suganuma solo cds, I also like, in addition to the later Yabori stuff.

Some of those I have—KBB, Keep strike me as more Prog...and I have all Those Tetsuo releases. Should have mentioned them! W.I.N.S and WYSIWYG also. Thanks for the recs though, and keep them coming! I’m also a fan of the Japanese Jazz artists Masabumi Kikuchi, Toshiko Akiyoki....and proggy stuff like Machine and the Synergetic Nuts, and Of course Kenso!

I’m with George on the favorites. The only omissions are:
Toshimi Project: 1st gear & So are both great.
7[Seven] - S/T a superstar band feat Kazumi.

This concert is enjoyable, if anything for some of the most unapologetically indulgent soloing I've ever seen.

May Inoue Hirokuni Korekata Paradox
Akira Jimbo - He can be hot or cold, jazz or fusion or something else.
His new cd 28 NY Blue with Oz Noy is very good.

That Daisuke Kunita rec hit the spot. Reminds me a bit Wayne Krafts at his most fiery, but not a clone at all. Excellent!

Hey Ed, did Mr. Fusion ever re-boot the Audiophile Imports thing, as you suggested back in 2021?
