The greatest songwriter this genre has ever known, IMO.
Cancer sucks.

Agreed and thank you for your post. I wanted to stop by to say hello and post about listening to Inside Out tonight. Man, so much stuff has touched me so deeply throughout his career - everything from his work with his first Trio, Blue Mitchell, Stan Getz (with Stanley and Tony!), Miles, Anthony Braxton (Circle), the trio with Holland and Altschul, the Polydor material, RTF, all of the GRP era and everything after (special props to Origin, which sadly was way too short-lived). Man, this guy is all over my damn collection. He is definitely one of the guys that struck me like lightning when I first heard him. I swear it was a local radio station in Chicago around 1984 or so that was doing some goofy St. Pat's Day thing and they played something from The Leprechaun. It was probably Nite Sprite.
This is a gut punch of deaths and yes, cancer does indeed suck.

It's impossible to please everybody - especially given his massive catalogue. Personally I would have skipped the straight ahead jazz and acoustic material and if I had to choose a favourite it would be Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy (and I will be looking out for the Anthology remix version) with Bitches Brew and Where Have I known You Before as runners up.

I gave myself a self imposed limit of 2 releases per band configuration, in order to have more stuff for people to check out. Otherwise, my whole 10 would likely have been the 4 RTF quartet records and the 6 Elektric Band discs that don't say Light Years on them.

George, I loved watching that vid, and I agree with most of it. I’m still missing Chick, and have been revisiting his discography a lot lately. When he died, I think I only listened to Chick-related stuff for a week at least.

Have you got a standout release for you that we omitted? I love to re-visit ones I don't know as well.

I grew up with Romantic Warrior, became an instant Elektric Band fan when the first album dropped, and have stuck with Chick ever since, as one of my guiding lights. These daya I am morw likely to spin Three Quartets, or the later trio stuff, or wvwn the Circle atuff with Braxton. But there is no bad Corea album in my book.
