Frogg Cafe played at Orion Studios tonight. I knew they had some vocals but I was just expecting a nice night out catching friends. These guys kicked ass. Even with the little amount of vocals they tore up tonight. They had an opening act which was Frogg's bass player playing mandolin and acoustic stand up bass and acoustic guitar/singer. These guys were really good as well. For the encore of the night both bands were on stage and they did the most incredible version of Pink Floyd's The Wall I have ever heard. I don't think the guy who is usually there and records and posts on Dime was there.

He's going to Europe after that, where the band will be Hadrien, Damien, and Whitty. Wow.

I managed to get tickets to the Nerve Bundle late show on Dec 18th. The early show sold out immediately. I've never seen Luke live. I'm looking forward to this one. I'll have to bribe the doorman well in the hopes of getting decent seats.

I'll have to bribe the doorman well in the hopes of getting decent seats. I heard they will be playing on one of those Cruise To The Edge tours. Depending if they play inside or outside may determine if it will be worth grabbing when posted on Dime.

I just saw Nerve Bundle last night, The lineup was: Steve Lukather - Guitar Jorgen Carlsson - Bass Jeff Babko - Keys Gregg Bissonette - Drums Special surprise guest: Doug Pinnick
This was the first time I've ever seen Luke live. It was a fantastic show, maybe one of the best I've seen (my friend agreed it was his best). Steve is a consummate showman, and the band did an amazing job playing with zero rehearsal or preparation (as they always do). The first set was sold out almost immediately, but we were lucky enough to get in for s.r.o., without a great view. But 2nd set, we had tickets and first row seats (thanks to a fat tip for the door man) by stage Right, close enough that Jeff could've taken a drink of my martini without getting up. He was playing a Rhodes & a nord. They (Jeff on trombone, Gregg on Trumpet) played a little (tongue in cheek) Chuck Mangione. Aside from some xmas tunes, they played mostly Lukather material. Doug Pinnick, who happened to be in the audience was dragged up on stage to do three Hendrix numbers.

As I had previously mentioned under 'Bands on Tour', I saw Mulatu Astatke at the Jazz Cafe in London, last Tuesday.
It was absolutely stunning. Having sat through many concerts recently, it was great to be in a club where one could stand a yard from the stage and shuffle along to music. Fantastic atmosphere similar to when I saw James Brown at the Forum. The crowd were cheering the players on and they soared and soared over a two hour set. Particularly notable was the bassist who mostly played conventionally but on his solo piece he went full slap bass as if he was backing Bill Haley.
I can't find much on YouTube which captures the spirit of the event. This is the nearest even though the camera work is a bit dodgy.

Going to see Dennis Chambers,Leni Stern, Tom Kennedy and maybe Mike Stern with my 8 year old grandson Dec. 28th in Baltimore. Hung out with Dennis and three other friends last Saturday eating pizza and listening to some vinyl. Friend of mine replaced the tubes in his amps so we had to break them in.
