What about these? Most of the time, I feel like they're the speed bump on a cd. A jarring moment that takes me out of the flow I was in. I sort of do and sort of don't understand the need the artists feel to insert a song that shows their slow and emotive side. Doesn't mean I enjoy a lot of them. Any favorites for you guys?

No. I am with you on this George. They mostly don't work for me although I will try to listen out for some that do.

I gave it a little thought and came up with a few I like. Maybe some of their ballad status could be questioned. In my head, they come across as mostly mellow tunes though. If they're too raucous to qualify, ok.
Elektric Band - Eternal Child Shawn Lane - The Way it Has to Be Aziza Mustafa Zadeh - Dance of Fire Jeff Berlin - 20,000 Prayers Tigran Hamasyan - Love Song Hiromi - Wind Song Mahavishnu Orchestra - You Know You Know Dixie Dregs - Day 444

I do enjoy You Know You Know by Mahavishnu Orchestra. The others not so much.

Jeff Berlin - 20,000 Prayers If this is a fusion ballad, I love fusion ballads.

Jeff Berlin - 20,000 Prayers If this is a fusion ballad, I love fusion ballads. It may be a bit too uptempo. It sure gets peppy in the solo, but often, so do rock power ballads

Given it some thought and Weather Report definitely do "fusion ballads". Will, Blackthorn Rose and Scarlet Woman spring to mind from mid-period WR but there are others.

The one on the new Quartado, Cinnamon Tea, is pretty decent, actually.

A Remark You Made (the weather report song, not an actual remark xmiles made) was the first thing that came to my mind. That is a top notch ballad in my book. Tribal Tech would usually do a ballad (taking cues from WR). Black Cherry (probably my favorite TT ballad) Wounded Paha Sapa (maybe?) Rituals Jakarta The Necessary Blonde

Rituals Jakarta The Necessary Blonde The only one I like of those, is The Necessary Blonde. I never thought of that as a ballad, for whatever reason, but as I sit here and listen again, I'm not sure why. Very good tune

A short acoustic ballad between uptempo electric fusion romps might create a nice contrast or at least give you a chance to visit the fridge.

I hate when artists do them live, especially Mike Stern. They are always too long and put me to sleep.
