What are everyone's thoughts about cover art in the genre? I originate from the rock and metal world, where cover art has a much bigger premium placed on it. There, it's a historic category unto itself, with many of the artists names being known to fans. But fusion? Are there any undeniably cool fusion album covers that immediately jump to mind? This topic came to me because a friend asked why I had so few concert shirts from my fusion shows, but in truth, there usually aren't any. Is that just another lost chance to market for them, or does it tie in to the cover art thing? That tends to be the tour shirt, after all.
So, what are your favorite fusion album covers?

To be honest I don't really pay any attention to the cover art. Once I stopped buying vinyl it just didn't seem to matter.
It might be more entertaining to ask people to post the cheesiest fusion album covers.

While I ponder this, I'd say that fusion really didn't help its rep historically with cover art. Definitely some of the worst art out there. The problem with the DIY era now, especially for a marginalized sub sub sub genre like fusion is that it's become so amateurish, I barely pay attention any more. Recent winners are definitely some of Moonjune's covers, which also have some of the worst early on in their history.

One thing I’ve noticed is I can usually quickly tell whether the album will be up my alley based on the art. On the facebook forum, I can usually pick out ones worth checking out at a glance based on the art. And I can usually tell which ones were posted by the guy’s who’s taste I have nothing in common with.

Yeah, I agree with everything said. So it's not just me. I kinda thought someone would stick up for fusion cover art, but I guess it's not easy, if possible even.

Some of the album covers in the 70's were pretty cool.

I think album cover art is one of the expenses that is easy to justify cutting for low budget fusion releases. But there are some good ones. Scott Henderson's are all good On quick glance, I like covers from: The Aristocrats Flying Machines Postmodern Blues Tristan Altered Alex Machacek Kazumi Watanabe The Mencial Project Massimo Lumina - Project Mike Progodich Fragile Bryan Beller Walk Away
