Do you guys use one? Which one?
At one point I had both Spotify & Tidal, and ended up switching over to just Tidal (the upgraded hi-fi account). Besides the CD quality & hi-rez (master), Tidal has nearly twice the number of tracks. Not sure why the majority choose Spotify, but I suspect it's due to superior marketing. For fusion, Tidal has quite a bit of obscure stuff, maybe 60% of my personal library favorites exist on Tidal, and I'm able to run down most of what is mentioned here. But Spotify has some things that Tidal does not, and has way better playlists (like JaySee's for instance) since everyone uses it.

What are some rare things you have found on Tidal? By rare, I mean relatively obscure, small label, non-US, and possibly hard to track down (Not available for US purchase, and would have to scour the gray market). But not rare in the extreme sense. A few examples: Wojtek Pilichowski - 3 releases The 4 Korners - 2 releases and a play along Cissy Street Renaud Louis-Servais Group - 2 albums Loop Doctors - 2 albums Dam'nco - From Paris With Love

Spotify. I've tried them all. MOG was by far my favorite until it was bought, ruined and morphed into Apply Music. F Apple.

None for me. I don't see what I would get out of it. I don't own as much music as I do to let someone or something pick what I'm hearing. And the find new artists angle holds no appeal for me, as I can't even keep up with the amount of new stuff I come across as it is.

With streaming services like tidal/spotify, you have complete control of what is played. It responds as if you were accessing the music library on your computer. You may be thinking of Pandora which creates playlists based on your terms. With Tidal, I’m able to stream probably 75% of what is mentioned here (in CD or master quality), which makes it extremely easy to track things down and listen immediately. Then I might decide to support the artist by purchasing, but still usually end up just streaming from Tidal out of convenience. Tidal will list other albums that an artist appears on, which has led me to some discoveries. I can also stream in my car at CD quality, which is great because I’m no longer limited by the storage capacity of my phone.

I almost never listen outside of the house. When I do, it's on the portable. To the extent that I would have any interest in a service, it would have been for discovery. To use one to play the music in my own library never occurred to me, and holds no cache for me, as I have no problem playing it in traditional manners.

But it is pretty cool that for the stuff that is mentioned here, I can usually bring it up immediately and legally through Tidal. No need to futz around with some shady Russian file sharing site or lo-fi unauthorized youtube rip. And also cool that I do have access to the stuff that I don't necessarily see fit to own.

I would agree generally with the above but it is amazing how many holes there are, especially for a marginalized sub genre like fusion. Sometimes rutracker is the only option.

Extremely rare that I can't find something on Soulseek. I've been on there for at least 15 years

I'm trying out Qobuz with their free trial. They have the same number of tracks as Tidal, but more of an emphasis on hi-rez & audio quality.

So far I'm very happy with Qobuz. They have some fusion releases in hi-rez. But the outstanding thing is that the normal, CD quality ones sound great. Immediately noticeable comparing to Tidal (also supposedly CD quality). They are however missing a lot of things that are on Tidal and Spotify. For now, I'm keeping both subscriptions.

I just don't see the point in paying to stream any music at all - ever.
You can free stream playlists you create off YouTube (with annoying ads yes).
You can free stream music in your home. I use my Media Player on my Roku TV and stream my gazillion music files from my PC upstairs.
You can add tons of music to a big microSD card in your phone and stream that glut via the wonderful Musicolet android app.
You can also buy a Bluetooth wireless speaker like a JBL FLIP6 and stream music in your yard, garage, workshop or patio. You can even stream your music or play live your own music via any iOS synthesizer app on an iPad straight to a JBL FLIP6. The sound quality is awesome!
Stuff like Spotify, Tidal or Pandora is simply unnecessary to me. IMHO . . .
