Last night I saw Jean-Luc Ponty at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco (Sven was in attendance as well). It was a terrific show. They played songs from a number of albums. Every musician was on fire and clearly enjoying himself. Jamie Glaser on guitar, Wally Minko on keys, Rayford Griffin on drums, Baron Browne on bass. It would have been perfect if Ralphe Armstrong was on bass, though Baron is a fine player. I thought of Holdsworth when the two songs from Enigmatic Ocean were played. Two violinists were guests: Mads Tolling, a Bay Area resident from Denmark, with his own career in music, and a student of his named Gabe, a grad from Humbolt State. It was amazing to hear Ponty play these songs from the 70s and 80s. Everyone knew them all. Jean-Luc said we must all be old to know the songs. No kidding! I highly recommend seeing this tour if you have the chance. The AP Band were good, but I loved this much more.

It would be great to see this band live, but they don't seem to play in Europe, let alone in Finland. I hope they at least make recordings for a live album release. Nevertheless, glad you enjoyed the show.

Nevertheless, glad you enjoyed the show. I asked Jamie about a live release on Facebook. It didn't sound likely. Hopefully that will change. I also hope they tour Europe for your sake. Ponty plays in Europe in July-August but it's with Bireli Lagrene and Kyle Eastwood. Maybe they want to see how the US tour goes before they even consider touring in Europe.

I have a nice boot of that show, if anyone wants it. Lively performance.
