Not Jazz Rocks, but here's another podcast, this, a 3 part interview series on Holdsworth and his influence on other major players. Link is for part 3, but you can find the other parts on there as well. podsodcast.com/2017/06/06/em48/

I've only checked out Pt. 3 so far, but some interesting stories from Ponty and Gambale. I kind of figured Allan only had done a couple of dates on Enigmatic Ocean tour, since I've never found a boot with him on it, despite seeing an interview with Steurmer saying that they had played together live, but now I know for sure.

It would be nice to know what JLP has in his archives. He has never released any older live recordings.

Unless it's a Holdsy show, it's nothing new. There are lot of great quality boots from the era. I have some real stunners, that I def. prefer to the official live release.
Check either of these on youtube. Hamburg 1976 or Bottom Line NYC 1976. Hamburg is phenomenal quality, stuff from the the first 2 Atlantic albums. Bottom Line is Imaginary Voyage tour. Incredible playing

I don't know if it's me but while I appreciate the fact that the podcasters are doing this, I am growing tired of the constant references to Mahavishnu and Johnny Mac. I mean, I bought Kolosky's book and I love Mahavishnu as much as anyone on here, but I think that they really give a lot of other artists the short shrift, especially those that are playing today. Plus, the superlatives are too overwrought. I couldn't even get through the 7th episode just thinking of the time that is wasted on self-promotion rather than for introduction to new artists and music (or heck, forgotten gems). I believe that that striking a balance between history and what is happening now would be most productive. This is not museum music, damn it and in reference to the comment made in episode 7, there is plenty of exciting music past the early seventies (though boomers have a hard time with this notion).

I agree with you. Kolosky obviously has a massive hard-on for all things Maha/JMac. Now, everyone has favorites, but he goes too far. There is a line from his Mahavishnu biography, where he claims that McLaughlin's solo album, Electric Guitarist was, "one of the last great fusion albums". Really?! In 1978? I guess there's hardly been anything great since. Nice guy, but not anyone I'd want to be an ambassador of fusion And I certainly have known a lot of guys like him who overly romanticize 70s fusion. There was a lot of great stuff from that decade, but a lot of crap as well. No different than today. Guys who only look back have only that one perspective; backwards. Me, I get a lot of albums that I think kick the crap out of Electric Guitarist, every year.
