Starting to formulate a square for 4FF of saxophonist solo albums. Suggestions? Fusion here, guys. No straight jazz. No smoothie crap. Fusion. What's the hot shit?
No bands either. Saxman solo albums

Two obvious candidates for me are Wayne Shorter and Bob Berg. Wayne produced three excellent fusion albums with Phantom Navigator, Joy Rider and High Life. Berg has quite a number but would suggest Short Stories, In the Shadows or Back Roads.
Ano0ther possible candidate is Steve Coleman but this may be too jazzy and arguably they are band albums.
I am not much of a fan of Eric Marienthal's solo stuff.

Oh man. This will be tough to find albums that are not too light, or too jazz. Some thoughts
Michael Brecker's late 80s/early 90s solo albums: Now you see... Now you Don't Don't Try This at Home S/T
Bill Evans - The Alternative Man I used to be really into this album in the 80s. Sounds dated now
Steve Tavaglione - Blue Tav. This is a mixed bag. Mike Landau on guitar. Some strong tunes, some weak ones

I forgot Bill Evans! He has some great fusion albums. I would suggest Let the Juice Loose, The Gambler and Petite Blonde, although the first two are live recordings which means you are not going to include them.

Let the Juice Loose is gonna be in it. Another one of your other suggestions too, Joy Ryder. The Berg albums are just too smooth/boring, save for a track here and there. I omitted Brecker because Pete is doing an entire Brecker ranking show with his saxman buddy, coming up soon. Pettite Blonde is live too, btw. We've already had that one on though, so that's out

A 4FF sax solo should be a lot of fun and one i have been looking most forward to for quite a while. This was a hard list to put together mainly because a lot of sax players either dabble in avante garde, smooth jazz or straight ahead but i've come up with some suggesstions which i think fit the bill. Looking forward to the Brecker ranking show as that's the one i've really been looking forward to the most.
Bob Berg: Cycles Steve Tavaglione: Blue Tav Bill Evans: The Alternative Man Wayne Shorter: Atlantis, High Life, Phantom Navigator Chris Potter: Circuits

Potter's two Circuits albums would be on my list. Maybe His Underground albums, though those are more funk and jazz I guess....killer stuff, though. Maybe some of Binney's albums? And Dave Liebman did that On The Corner album I really dig....

Where ya been Ed? Haven't seen you in a while. Everything ok by you? It's been a while. I remodeled a room for my grandson and now have to find places for everything I stored in that room. Ever since Mike passed away last June I lost my main connection for fusion.
