I'm also afraid I may have a different idea of what "Fusion" really is.
If your definition of fusion is the classic one, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re up for discovering so new music, I imagine you'll find at least some gems from my list, and what the others are posting here.

Quite the opposite, actually. I was referencing modern music that uses a host of instruments. My tastes also tend more towards the "jazz" end rather than the "rock" end. Seems like a lot of people on these boards are into more the instrumental rock angle, which is cool, but my wheelhouse is all encompassing. I mean, the "original" fusion artists all had reeds and horns in their music. Today, not so much. It's all guitars and keys for the most part unless you are on the smoother end of things. I also note that your original list omitted some of the core fusion classics, which I thought was surprising (I think that tribal fusion referred to that in the other thread).
Give me Chris Potter ripping it up with Craig Taborn and Adam Rogers any day.
PS Edited to note that thanks to this Board's predecessor and the "new" Board, I've been turned on to a lot of newer artists. I've found a few desert island discs for me thanks to JaySee, xMiles and GeorgeX. My problem is that my listening range is very broad and for instance, in the last three months or so, it's been 65% Grateful Dead.

Glad you have liked some things I've played/recommended jacofan. The main benefit for me of being on this forum is discovering new artists to listen to. I also listen to quite a range of things and you can probably guess I am a big fan of Miles Davis!

To use a car metaphor, I hold the Alfa Romero GT6, '73 911 Carrera and Ferrari 308 in the highest esteem, but they wouldn't be the first thing I'd jump in if I had free rein in Jay Leno's garage.

I mean, er, aren't we all? I certainly hope so. Well, I'm not. Scarcely any songs, much less a whole album. I don't connect with many of the genres sacred cows though; Weather Report, Metheny, and Holdsworth to name a few more. I have tried, but it just wasn't in the cards. Kudos to Miles for getting it all started though, obviously.

I mean, er, aren't we all? I certainly hope so. I have listened to Miles a lot in the past from the earlier jazz right up until he passed. I was into his '80s electric stuff around the time it came out. But I sort of feel like I put the time into listening, I know the material and am not compelled to listen now. I'll spin Kind of Blue every now and then, but that's about it.
